- Finishing the added bedroom upstairs (Our son's new room). This was an added space to make the outside shape of our house flow better.
- A complete renovation of the 2 small bedrooms by the kids bathroom. This included removing wallpaper, re-plastering and sanding all the walls (to make the walls smoother), ripping out and replacing carpet, replacing trim, & replacing all outlets & switches. These rooms are our daughter Jocelyn's big girl room and the nursery.
- Built a new fire pit. (We built this and then couldn't enjoy it because it rained here in Ohio for the next 19 days!)
There was a lot of really old wiring that we found when we started stripping things away. Originally my husband was going to do the wiring in this new room to save some $$, but we decided that tracing where all the old stuff ran was more than what he was comfortable with. We chose to instead have it professionally done. Check out this old knob & tube wiring we found:
Because the majority of the framing was already completed, the construction of this room consisted of putting the floor down, hanging/finishing drywall, carpet & paint. The same crew that built our addition did the construction part for us. We were then left with painting and trim work. We are so happy with the finished product!
This nook is one of my favorite parts of this room! Our plan is to make built in shelving all along the far wall (in pic above) which is also the left side of the nook picture. We think this will be a great place for Blake to put books as well as display all his trophies & awards. I'm thnking something like this. Ignore all of Blake's things spread out on his desk!
I love how the barn style doors to the closet turned out! These were my Uncle's (who is also our contractor) idea.
We still have some work to do in this room, but are very happy with it's progress so far! Blake loves having this space all to himself, though I find him and his sister playing up here together all the time! Aren't they cute?
Notice the missing top dresser drawer? This is another project for the winter. Blake's bed and dresser were actually my dad's when he was a kid, my younger brother then used them, and now my son. Love having family heirlooms in our house, but sometimes they need some love and repair. This drawer broke and got lost somewhere along the way, so we will be making it an open shelf with shallow baskets, sort of like this.
Check back for more updates on some of our other projects!
